Persian Pair has a large open element with
rich yellow bands of color edged in lipstick red. Resting
inside is a contrasting red and orange lily form evoking
the rhythm of an organic shape. Together they represent
one of Chihuly’s more original series.
Dale Chihuly (b.1941, Tacoma, Washington) is credited with breathing
life into the now-flourishing world of blown glass. He studied at
the University of Wisconsin with Harvey Littleton, and at the Venini
Glass Factory in Venice, Italy (the first American to be granted
such access). In 1971, he co-founded the Pilchuck Glass Center in
Stanwood, Washington, which is now the creative center of the continually
expanding art-glass universe. His works are in collections of more
than 100 museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian's
Renwick Gallery.
Special Information: This hand-blown glass is
signed by Chihuly and measures approximately thirteen inches across. A
Plexiglas vitrine and a hardcover book, Chihuly Persians,
are included.
