Shimmering with colored light that seeps through the blocks and shines between the spaces, Red Fold was created in Scully's classic abstract style of geometric shapes in a limited palette.

Scully's painting style, although strikingly individualistic, has been compared to that of Frank Stella, Jasper Johns and Mark Rothko, though his surfaces seem more natural with visible brushwork and natural hues.

Though born in Ireland, Scully lived in London and now lives in New York. He attended Harvard University as well as Croydon College of Art and Newcastle University. In the last 20 years Sean Scully has emerged as an heir to the Abstract Expressionists. His artwork is in the major world collections, including the National Gallery of Art and the Tate Gallery.
